Chronicle comic

So we all know that I'm basically at the end of the comic, and I just noticed that Akhektuak has the same backpack and sash that he had at the beginning of the comic, which I think is pretty impressive given the journey that he's been on. So I'm going to propose to alternative canons, and you, the reader, can choose which one to believe because I'm not going to say which is true.

1. Akhektuak got a new backpack and sash at some point. The old ones were getting worn, and he had to replace them.

2. The backpack and sash are ancient relics left behind by the gods that have gone unnoticed throughout history but are, in fact, nigh-indestructible and choose as their owners only the purest of heart.

Which of these is true? Is there another explanation? I'm not telling.
