That's right! We're at a monastery!

The joke was as follows:

In World War II, there was an important mine that provided many of the natural resources needed for the American war effort. Now, this mine happened to be located near an army base, and one day a colonel at the army base was taking a walk in the local botanical gardens, when he heard someone whisper to him. He looked over at a large patch of thyme to see one of the miners hiding. He asked what was going on, and the miner explained that he had just been at the mine, and that there was a group of Nazi sympathizers who were planning on blowing it up. He pretended to be part of the group, but then ran away. He was waiting in the botanical garden for just this sort of opportunity. The colonel took action, and soon the Nazi sympathizers were rounded up and the plot was thwarted. Later, when the miner was asked about why he decided to hide in the botanical garden he simply quoted an old saying his grandmother used to say: "A snitch in thyme saves the mine."
