Each of us grows up with stories which affect our outlook on the world and the way we in turn tell stories. An example is that when I think "meaningful dream," I can't help but immediately think of Lehi's vision of the tree of life in the Book of Mormon. And so when I try to make a dream of Akhektuak struggling to find a black pyramid, I find myself drawn to the language of that dream--the distant object of desire that can be viewed, though the way to it cannot, the path that leads to it, the mists of darkness clouding the way. Perhaps if I were a better writer, I would be able to make things without hopelessly cribbing from other sources. |
