This is an attitude I've seen a lot in my reading of Arabian Nights. People are always trusting handsome, well-spoken young men because outward appearance is linked to virtue. And, of course, both virtue and good looks are linked to a noble lineage.

You see, it's funny because wine is made from grape juice and a whine is a sound someone might make when in pain.

Speaking of parietal eyes, is Akhektuak's species cold blooded? I have been reading about these things on wikipedia and it seems like their function is somehow related to thermoregulation.

So, I know that the red/yellow slits are Akhektuak's actual "eyes" while the blue thing in the middle of his forehead is a sort of light-sensing pseudo-eye (similar to that of a tuatara). But, as far as expressions are concerned, I feel that the blue thing plays the eye role more effectively. It definitely does the lion's share of emotion-conveyance.

@Keen,
Yeah, it does seem to do a lot of emotional conveyance.

I hadn't really thought about whether the hakemba are warm-blooded or cold-blooded. I mean, they're primarily from a warmer climate, so they could easily be either. That said, I also don't feel like the blue eye necessarily need perform the same function in the hakemba as it does in real life. I don't know. I'll think about the question. It could easily change some plot points.
